The first objective of this course is to discover the wide repertoire of Swedish dances such as schottis, vals, hambo and especially polska, emblematic dances of Scandinavia. Indeed, each region has its own repertoire of dances which is closely linked to its style of music.
We will first work on the most popular and most danced dances.
Then the difference between the roles, the guidance and the posture.
- For beginners in Swedish dance: discovery of the rhythms and types of dances, musical and cultural discovery of Sweden and its regions.
- For the more advanced dancers: improvement and learning of new dances, personalized follow-up.
Sylvian Sahli is a Swiss dancer specializing in traditional dance. His meeting with dancers and teachers Britt Mari Westholm and Bengt Mård marked the beginning of an all-consuming passion for Nordic dance. Sylvian took part in numerous training courses and travelled to Sweden to deepen his knowledge and skills in dance. At the same time, he is involved in research into the dances of French-speaking Switzerland, and is much in demand as a teacher of traditional Swedish, French and Swiss dances.
Irmela Schmid is a Swiss dancer of German origin. Like Sylvian, Irmela began her interest in Swedish dance with Britt Mari Westholm and Bengt Mård. Following this encounter, she developed her dance practice through various training courses and trips to Sweden, and now regularly teaches Swedish dance classes. Irmela is also enthusiastic about the Swedish violin, which she has perfected in Sweden at the Folkhögskola (Folk High School) in Malung.
