These courses are in the style of the Banaras Gharana, transmietted by Pandit Ravi Shankar Mishra. They are accompanied by live tablas .
Kathak classes begin with learning and practicing foot rhythms (tatkar), as well as the vocabulary of synchronised body movements, over a 16 beat cycle (teental). Then students learn diverse choreographies (toras, amad, paran), rhythmic sequences (lari, tihai), as well as invocations to the gods Shiva, Ganesh, Saraswati (Vandana).
Rhythmic formulas are repeated and become more and more complicated as they are executed at a speed that gradually increases. Classes are accompanied by the recorded music of Ravi Shankar, Mata Prasad and Prem Kishor Mishra.
